§ Mr. Kenneth Clarkeasked the Secretary of State for Trade what will be the effect of enlargement of the EEC to include Spain, Portugal and Greece on the future of import controls on textile and clothing products from these countries.
§ Mr. MeacherThe accession of Spain, Portugal and Greece will ultimately mean that imports from these countries are treated on the same basis as imports from other EEC member States. But it is intended that the accession treaties should include a safeguard clause which would allow the Commission to authorise action against disruptive imports during the transitional periods.
