§ Mr. Bagierasked the Secretary of State for Transport what proposals British Railways have put to him for infrastructure improvements on the Southern region; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. William RodgersThe board has put to me proposals for the resignalling of the London to Brighton line and associated branch lines at a cost of £45 million. I have given it my approval today. The scheme, which includes improvements to the track layout, should start later this year and be fully completed by 1987. It will increase the safety, reliability and speed of services on these lines.
