§ 38. Mr. Newensasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on his policy towards orders from China for military equipment and supplies manufactured in the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. LuardThe Government want a balanced relationship with China, including political, commercial and cultural contacts. We are willing in principle to approve some sales of defensive military equipment, subject to our international obligations, as having a natural place in such a relationship.
