HL Deb 20 March 1979 vol 399 c1143WA
Lord VERNON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is their estimate of the amount of land lying derelict in:

  1. (a) Greater London, and
  2. (b) England and Wales (including Greater London),
in each of the three years 1970, 1975 and 1978.

Baroness DAVID

Directly comparable figures for the three years are not available. The following relate to the two surveys of derelict land in England made in 1970 and 1974 and to the survey of 1971 in Wales.

Derelict land, in hectares, at
31st December 1st April
1970 1974
Greater London 190 324
England (including Greater London) 39,149 43,273

In Wales there were 16,534 hectares of derelict land at 31st December 1971.

We will be discussing with the local authority associations the timing and scope of the next survey.
