§ Mr. Churchillasked the Secretary of State for Defence what is his estimate of (a) the number of operational SS. 20 ballistic missiles deployed by the Soviet Union against Western Europe and (b) the numbers of other intermediate range and medium range ballistic missiles.
§ Mr. MulleyWe believe about 100 SS-20 intermediate range ballistic missiles are now deployed with the Soviet strategic rocket forces. Most of these missiles are deployed against Western Europe. In addition, the Soviet Union has in the region of 500 SS-4 medium range ballistic missiles and about 90 SS-5 intermediate range ballistic missiles.
