HC Deb 19 March 1979 vol 964 c464W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will refuse to allow Daihatsu Motors to import its new Charade model into the United Kingdom until the Japanese are seen to be putting into practice promises they have made and are again currently making about balancing trade with the United Kingdom.

Mr. Meacher

So long as the Japanese keep to the inter-industry understanding on the overall level of car exports to the United Kingdom, the make-up of this total is a matter for them. JAMA has undertaken to pursue its exports in a prudent manner, and it appears to be adhering closely to this.
