asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when the White Paper on British nationality will be published.

Mr. John

Comments on the Green Paper (Cmnd. 6795) are still being received, and there is a number of complex matters to be resolved before the terms of a White Paper can be settled. It remains the Government's intention to publish one as soon as practicable.

Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has received the memorandum from the Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants commenting on the Government's Green Paper on British nationality; if he has sent a reply; and if he will make a statement.

Yes. The Council has been good enough to set out its views in great detail, and I have written to thank the council. The memorandum is being studied, and its contents will be taken into account, with other contributions sent in response to the Green Paper, when decisions are being reached on what changes in the law should be proposed.
