asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what plans he has to ban misleading bargain offers in shops; and if he will make a statement.

In October, I announced the Government's proposals to ban a wide range of potentially misleading bargain offer claims, in line with recommendations made to my right hon. Friend by the Director General of Fair Trading. Detailed and extensive consultations have since been held on the proposals. I shall shortly be laying an order before Parliament.
