HC Deb 19 March 1979 vol 964 c406W
Mr. Goodhew

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many copies have been printed of"Protect and Survive ", the booklet explaining to the public what action to take in the event of a nuclear attack; why copies have not been distributed to all households, as is done in most European countries; and what would be the cost of such distribution.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

2,250 copies for training use were printed in 1976. Distribution to the public would be most effective at a time of heightened tension, as part of a comprehensive publicity campaign. The estimated cost of producing and distributing 23 million copies to householders is £1.7 million.
