HC Deb 12 March 1979 vol 964 cc67-8W
Mr. Hordern

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why no account appears to be taken of stock appreciation in the appropriation account of public corporations, table 5.1, Financial Statistics, of the Central Statistical Office; if he will now include a further table showing the effect of stock appreciation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Denzil Davies

Annual estimates of stock appreciation are published in the appropriation account of public corporations in the National Income and Expenditure Blue Book—table 6.2 in the last issue. The less reliable quarterly estimates have not been considered to be of sufficient interest to users of the statistics for inclusion in the quarterly national accounts. In view of the interest now being shown in the quarterly estimates, however, publication in table 5.1 of Financial Statistics, and corresponding tables in Economic Trends, is under consideration.
