HC Deb 12 March 1979 vol 964 cc22-3W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether his statement made on Friday 23 February that there cannot be any further increases in the wages and salaries of workers in the public sector because there is no more money available took into account that the Government have declared themselves in favour of increased payments subject to reports from the Commission on comparability of incomes with the private sector.

Mr. Shore

The offer made on 21 February by the local authority employers to their manual workers included implementation of the results of a comparability study carried out by a Standing Commission to be established by the Government. My statement to the press related to the whole of that offer.
