HC Deb 12 March 1979 vol 964 c94W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked Secretary of State for Scotland what proportion of local authority (a) staff and (b) manual workers in Scotland are members of index-linked pension schemes.

Mr. Harry Ewing

Practically all teachers, all firemen and police officers—but not police cadets—and most full-time—non-manual—local government employees are members of occupational index-linked pension schemes. Information is not available on the number of manual and part-time local government employees who are not in the local government pension scheme; these are likely to be subject to the earnings-related part of the State scheme which is also index-linked.
