HC Deb 12 March 1979 vol 964 cc4-5W
Mr. Fairbairn

asked the Lord Advocate how many prosecutions have been marked"No-pro"or dropped as a result of the court strike in each sheriff court; and what were the charges.

The Lord Advocate

Approximately 1,300 cases due to be heard in Glasgow sheriff court did not call on account of the strike. They have all been reconsidered. Approximately 110 cases have been marked for no further proceedings and the decision notified to the accused.

In Edinburgh out of approximately 870 cases due to proceed about 120 have now been marked for no further proceedings and the decision intimated to the accused.

The only other sheriff court where such a decision has been made is Dunoon, where an American Service man who was due to appear in court has now returned to the United States of America.

The majority of the cases which have been dropped involve road traffic offences.
