(2) how many tonnes of cauliflowers in the United Kingdom were destroyed in 1978 in accordance with regulations of the common agriculture policy;

(3) what means were used to destroy cauliflowers in the United Kingdom in accordance with the common agricultural policy;

(4) what official supervision has been exercised to prevent fraud when cauliflowers have been destroyed in the United Kingdom in accordance with common agricultural policy;

(5) what was the cost to public funds caused by destroying cauliflowers in the United Kingdom in accordance with the common agricultural policy.

Mr. Bishop

Withdrawals of cauliflowers in 1978 totalled 6,098 tonnes, representing about 2 per cent. of estimated production, and compensation amounting to about £200,000 was paid entirely out of Community funds. No withdrawn cauliflowers were sold as animal feed. Withdrawn cauliflowers can be ploughed in, and 5,592 tonnes were disposed of in this way during 1978, under the supervision of officials of my Department. The costs of the operation are borne by producers.
