Mr. Dykes

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what recent contacts he has had with the Ford Motor Company in the United Kingdom to discuss motor vehicle purchases by Her Majesty's Government in respect of cars produced by Ford; and if he will explain latest official Government policy in connection with such ordering and purchases.

My right hon. Friend has had no contact with the Ford Motor Company to discuss vehicles purchases. It continues to be Government policy to buy the most cost-effective vehicles that meet the required specification.
