§ Mr. Ovendenasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what action she is taking to advise local education authorities to allow the use of school premises for the care of children after school hours or during school holidays where such children would otherwise return to or be left in homes without adult supervision.
§ Miss Margaret JacksonI am wholeheartedly in favour of school premises being used, to the greatest practicable extent, outside school hours—not only for the care of children but for the benefit of the community as a whole. Circulars and other forms of advice to this end have been issued on a number of occa-664W sions over the last few years. It is for local education authorities themselves, however, in consultation with other interested organisations, including social services departments and voluntary bodies, to assess the scope for the use of educational premises for these purposes.
