HC Deb 05 March 1979 vol 963 c455W
Mr. Lawrence

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how his proposals for abolishing the vehicle excise duty on motor vehicles and a corresponding increase on the price of motor fuel will affect (a) commercial vehicles and (b) private cars using diesel fuel.

Mr. William Rodgers

The Government have decided that VED should be abolished for all petrol-driven vehicles. This includes the 1.06 million petrol driven goods vehicles. Proposals for the relative taxation of diesel will shortly be put forward for consultation with those concerned.
