§ Mr. Lawrenceasked the Secretary of State for Transport how his proposals for abolishing the vehicle excise duty on motor vehicles and a corresponding increase on the price of motor fuel will affect (a) commercial vehicles and (b) private cars using diesel fuel.
§ Mr. William RodgersThe Government have decided that VED should be abolished for all petrol-driven vehicles. This includes the 1.06 million petrol driven goods vehicles. Proposals for the relative taxation of diesel will shortly be put forward for consultation with those concerned.
