asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how much additional expense would be involved, over and above that predicted in the recent public expenditure White Paper, if the targets of nursery places set out in the 1972 White Paper were to be met in full by 1981–82.

At 1978 survey prices, about £170 million capital expenditure by 1981–82 and current expenditure rising to about £80 million annually by the same date. These estimates are based on a revised assessment of the costs involved.
