HC Deb 05 March 1979 vol 963 cc586-7W
Mr. Litterick

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what compensation is being paid to the Gaelic Athletic Association in respect of damage done to the sports ground and facilities at Crossmaglen by the military authorities.

Mr. Mason

The Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1978 provides for the payment of compensation in respect of property occupied or damaged under the Act. The question of compensation for property requisitioned from the Gaelic Athletic Association at Crossmaglen will be determined by agreement with the association or, failing such agreement, by reference to the county court or an arbitrator appointed by that court. I understand that several small claims in respect of damage otherwise alleged to have been caused by the military authorities have been lodged with the Ministry of Defence. One of these has been settled for £100, while a second for £142.56 is under consideration.
