HC Deb 05 March 1979 vol 963 cc453-4W
Mr. Dodsworth

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is his policy on the diversion of bridleways and footpaths to take account of new motorway projects; and how many such public rights of way have been diverted or obliterated since 1970.

Mr. Horam

Wherever possible, the continuity of public footpaths and bridleways severed by motorways is maintained along the shortest and most convenient practicable route. The numbers of footpaths and bridleways diverted or stopped up since 1970 could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
