§ Mr. Maddenasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will place in the Library details of proposed and agreed conventions, emanating from the Common Market, relating to firearms;
(2) if he will place in the Library information about all proposals for firearms legislation emanating from the Common Market, including the draft resolution of the Council of Ministers about legislation governing firearms; and what consultation has taken place with interested parties on such a resolution, or agreed or proposed conventions, on the same issue;
(3) what steps he is taking to inform the House and the public about agreed and proposed Common Market conventions, draft resolutions, and any other measures, relating to firearms.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesNo proposals about firearms legislation have been put forward by the European Economic Communities. A copy of the Council of Europe convention on firearms is in the Library of the House. A draft Council of Europe resolution has been discussed in committee but is not yet available for publication. Neither the convention nor the proposals in the draft resolution substantially affect United Kingdom firearms controls, and no consultations are called for at present.
