HC Deb 05 March 1979 vol 963 cc469-70W
Mr. Maurice Macmillan

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will list in the Official Report such incentives as exist to encourage British firms operating in the United Kingdom to build up stockpiles of basic commodities and raw materials which are imported from politically unstable or sensitive areas; and, in the light of the Government's policy of not amassing strategic stockpiles for industrial use, whether he will consider introducing greater incentives.

Mr. Les Huckfield

The supply situation of essential raw materials and the need to introduce measures, including stockpiling, to safeguard against potential shortages are kept under review by my Department. There is continuing contact with industry on the subject. No incentives of the kind suggested exist at present.
