§ Mr. Peter Bottomleyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether the table published in the Official Report, 25 January, column 248, takes into account the November 1978 increase in child benefit; and if he will express the value of child tax alowance and child benefits after November 1978 for a one, two and four-child family as a percentage of gross and net average earnings.
§ Mr. Robert SheldonI have been asked to reply.
The figures for 1978–79 in the reply to the hon. Member—[Vol. 961, cc. 247–48]—were calculated for complete fiscal years and took account of the appropriate 528W proportion of the increase in child benefit from November 1978.
The figures including the full increase in child benefit in November 1978 are as follows:
(a) Value of child tax allowances and child benefits as percentage of gross income for:
per cent. one-child family 3.7 two-child family 7.2 four-child family 13.6 (b) Value of child tax allowances and child benefits as percentage of income after tax for:
one-child family 4.7 two-child family 8.9 four-child family 16.4 The figures are otherwise on the same basis as the previous answer.
