§ Mr. Foulkesasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if his Department is aware of the study at the Western general hospital, Edinburgh on 14 boys with the XYY chromosome type; whether he will make a statement on the policy of the researchers in not disclosing the information about these boys to the parents concerned; and whether the Government 251W propose legislation to make it compulsory for such information to be disclosed.
§ Mr. FairgrieveMy Department is aware of this study, which is being carried out under the auspices of the Medical Research Council; any policy questions about the research are therefore the responsibility of the council. Given the high reputation of the council in ethical matters I have no reason to suppose that legislation is needed.
