§ Sir Derek Walker-Smithasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in the light of the apprehensions entertained by environmental health officers in respect of the implementation of EEC directive 77/79 in the context of their participation in relation to meat and food production and hygiene, what action he proposes to take to overcome the problem.
§ Mr. WigginAs I said in reply to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Thirsk and Malton (Mr. Spence) on 25 June, we shall aim to secure recognition in the Community that environmental health officers are qualified to carry out supervision and provide public health certification of meat products under this directive. My right hon.244W Friend will be seeing representatives of the environmental health officers shortly and will be discussing these matters with them.
