HL Deb 26 June 1979 vol 400 c1478WA
Baroness ELLIOT of HARWOOD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in view of the escalation in estimated total costs for the Dinorwic Pumped Storage Hydro-Electric Scheme in North Wales from £73 million to well over £400 million in the six years from 1973, they will give:

  1. 1. the currently estimated total cost of building Phase 1 of the Craigroyston Pumped Storage Scheme on Benlomond;
  2. 2. a breakdown of the costs to show the contribution of tunnelling, access roads, dam construction, pylon line and other components to the total; and
  3. 3. a similar total and breakdown of currently estimated costs for the conversion of the existing Sloy Scheme to form a pumped storage scheme of equivalent capacity to Craigroyston Phase 1.

The MINISTER of STATE, SCOTTISH OFFICE (The Earl of Mansfield)

The North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board has not as yet taken firm decisions about the detail of the Craigroyston scheme which it proposes to submit in due course to my right honourable friend. Figures in the form requested by my noble friend are not therefore available at present.
