§ Dr. Edmund Marshallasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will introduce legislative proposals to place a duty on social services authorities to give financial assistance towards the cost of television licences for retirement pensioners resident in their areas, other than those who live in sheltered accommodation or are disabled or handicapped.
§ Mr. PrenticeLocal authorities al-ready have power to help elderly people with the provision of a television set and with the licence fee. There are at present no plans to extend this legislation.
