asked the Minister of Transport what is the latest estimate of the cost to local authorities of snow clearance and extra maintenance due to the severity of the winter.

Mr. Fowler

In March the Association of County Councils estimated that these particular local authority costs would be about £32 million for snow clearing and £55 million for extra remedial maintenance work. I am aware of no further estimates.
