asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the SALT II agreement.

The Government welcome the completion of the SALT negotiations and the signature of the agreement by President Carter and President Brezhnev. We have long supported efforts to achieve strategic arms limitation. We hope that the treaty will be ratified successfully.
