HC Deb 20 June 1979 vol 968 cc556-7W
46. Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Minister of Transport if he will take steps to have more extensive use made of continuous-edge carriageway road markings in non-built up areas in order to reduce the number of road accidents.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The use of edge lining is generally a matter for decision by local highway authorities, but this Department drew their attention in November 1977 to its safety benefits. The relative effectiveness of broken and unbroken edge lining will be the subject of a two-year experiment starting later this year.
