HC Deb 20 June 1979 vol 968 cc547-8W
Mr. Christopher Price

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Chief Constable of the Metropolis, in the light of the comments of Sir Ivor Rigby at Marylebone magistrates court over the veracity of police evidence after the acquittal of the defendants charged with assaulting the police during the match through Soho in October 1978.

Mr. Whitelaw

I understand that the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis has appointed an investigating officer to enquire into associated complaints against the police. His report will in due course be referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions, unless it is clear that no criminal offence has been committed, and to the Police Complaints Board for its independent consideration of the disciplinary aspects. It would not be appropriate for me to intervene in the procedures provided by law for the investigation and consideration of such complaints.
