asked the Minister of Transport what are the Government's plans for the construction of the Evesham bypass.

I am aware of the importance which my hon. Friend attaches to this scheme. I hope that public consultation about the route will start early next year. Subject to satisfactory completion of statutory procedures and availability of funds, construction could start in the mid 1980s.
