HC Deb 20 June 1979 vol 968 c568W
Sir Bernard Braine

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what progress has been made since the IRA bomb incident on Canvey Island earlier in 1979 to tighten security precautions at oil, gas and chemical installations in the Canvey Island-Thurrock area; and whether any new arrangements are to be tested.

Mr. Gray

Security measures at the oil and gas installations were reviewed following the bomb incident on 17 January and certain improvements are in hand.

My Department is in close touch with both the British Gas Corporation and the oil companies.
