§ Mr. Critchleyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much public money has been spent on the upkeep of Witley Court in Worcestershire; and what are his Department's intentions with regard to this property.
§ Mr. MonroWitley Court was taken into compulsory guardianship by the Department in 1972 because it was in danger of being destroyed. So far some444W £200,000 has been spent on essential stabilisation work.
A very large ruin ot this kind poses difficult technical problems. A leading conservation architect, Mr. Donald Insull. has been commissioned to prepare a report on the future of the monument and it is intended eventually to display it to the public.
