HC Deb 18 June 1979 vol 968 cc443-4W
Mr. Critchley

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much public money has been spent on the upkeep of Witley Court in Worcestershire; and what are his Department's intentions with regard to this property.

Mr. Monro

Witley Court was taken into compulsory guardianship by the Department in 1972 because it was in danger of being destroyed. So far some £200,000 has been spent on essential stabilisation work.

A very large ruin ot this kind poses difficult technical problems. A leading conservation architect, Mr. Donald Insull. has been commissioned to prepare a report on the future of the monument and it is intended eventually to display it to the public.
