Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what action the Government are taking to ensure that British manufacturers of leather shoes can have fair access to the Japanese market in line with the access to the British market enjoyed by Japanese manufactures in most product fields.

Mr. Parkinson

This is one of the principal product areas in which we are urging the Japanese Government, in the GATT, through the EEC and in bilateral discussions, to open up their market to our industry.
