HC Deb 18 June 1979 vol 968 cc436-7W
Mr. John Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Wales(1) what changes there will be in the school building programmes for each county in Wales in the current year and next year

(2) what is the amount of the Government's reduction in £55 million education expenditure which is to be borne in Wales; in what counties the reduction is to be made and by what amount.

Mr. Michael Roberts

£1.3 million. Of this total, £1 million represents savings arising from not proceeding with, or deferring, certain policy proposals of the previous Administration, and it is not possible to apportion these savings amongst local education authorities. To achieve the remaining expenditure savings of £0.3 million it is necessary to reduce the value of building starts by £0.9 million and this reduction is spread as follows:

Authority Reduction
Clwyd £99,000
Dyfed £130,000
Gwent £125,000
Gwynedd £81,000
Mid Glamorgan £225,000
Powys £50,000
South Glamorgan £63,000
West Glamorgan £127,000

No change is being made at present in the building allocations for future years.
