asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if pensioners will be given the statutory right to buy at discounts of up to 50 per cent, the council accommodation which they occupy, including bungalows and flats built especially to house retired people.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will introduce legislation to provde that existing owner.occupiers are given the statutory right to be placed on council housing waiting lists and to be treated equally with all other applicants, including the the inability of the private builder to do so.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment(1)if he will list the number of local authority house building contracts and their value over the last five years let to both private builders and direct labour departments in Ihe following manner, open tender, negotiated tender, selected list tenders and serial contracts;

  1. (2) what percentage of the local authority new house building programme is done by direct labour departments and private building, respectively; and if he will list them financially in global terms.
