HC Deb 18 June 1979 vol 968 cc403-4W
Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what information he has about the placement by jobcentres of construction workers from Merseyside in employment in West Germany over the past six months.

Mr. Jim Lester

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that job-centres and employment offices are not required to keep formal statistics on job seekers placed in work outside the United Kingdom but informal figures reveal that during the period 1 January to 12 June 1979 jobcentres and employment offices on Merseyside were involved in bringing details of 52 interested job seekers to the attention of employers requiring construction workers in West Germany. Of these 52 applicants, one was offered employment.
