§ Mr. Spellerasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will take steps to exempt from the provisions of the Baking Industry (Hours of Work) Act relating to night work, those bakeries in which no union labour is employed in the light of the fact that agreements under this 339W Act require the consent of both the employers' association and the unions.
§ Mr. MayhewNo. My right hon. Friend has no power under existing legislation to give exemptions except where there is an agreement in operation. I am already considering whether a review of the operation of the Baking Industry (Hours of Work) Act 1954 should take place.
