HL Deb 14 June 1979 vol 400 cc803-4WA
Lord O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many civil servants are principally engaged in:

  1. (a) agriculture;
  2. (b) fisheries; and
  3. (c) tourism.

The LORD PRESIDENT of the COUNCIL (Lord Soames)

Civil servants in various departments work in these fields, and details of them are not held centrally. However, I understand from my right honourable friends in charge of the departments concerned that the number of civil servants principally engaged in these three areas are as follows:

  1. (a) Agriculture: 11,734.
  2. (b) Fisheries: 1,253.
  3. (c) Tourism: 16.
These figures exclude support staff.
