HC Deb 11 June 1979 vol 968 cc15-6W
Sir Timothy Kitson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence at what aerodrome the Tornado aircraft will be based for training in the North of England; and how many aeroplanes will be involved.

Mr. Pattie

Tornado aircraft will be based at RAF Cottesmore in Leicestershire for initial conversion training and at RAF Honington in Suffolk for weapons training. Training flights from the two stations will not be restricted to any specific areas of the United Kingdom. Numbers of Tornado aircraft based at these stations will vary but it is expected that between 60 and 70 aircraft will be involved during the peak period.
