HC Deb 11 June 1979 vol 968 cc8-9W
Mr. John Page

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many years it has been since the fare increase charts and Metropolitan Police fare tables have been altered on London taxis; and whether he will take immediate steps to have the taxi meters urgently adjusted to read at the current rates and the fare tables upgraded.

Mr. Raison

The fare charts now displayed in London taxis were introduced in December 1977. The Metropolitan Police fares table, which also appears in London taxis and sets out the tariff according to which the taxi meter has been calibrated, was last amended in December 1975. The adjustment of taxi meters is a matter for the taxi trade, but I understand that the meters in use in London cannot show the fares currently payable.
