HC Deb 11 June 1979 vol 968 c104W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will issue advice to area health authorities on the appointment of senior nurses who combine administrative duties with clinical duties continued at ward level.

Dr. Vaughan

I have no plans at present to issue definitive advice on this subject. Problems which may arise for nurses with both clinical and managerial, or administrative, responsibilities are recognised by health authorities, by senior nurses and by the profession generally. A number of studies are being undertaken, and I understand a report is likely to be issued soon by the national staff committee for nurses and midwives about training for development of the managerial role of nurses engaged in clinical work.
