Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give the date when each prison in the United Kingdom still in use was built.

In addition to establishments originally built as prisons, the prison estate in England and Wales includes (a) former schools, orphanages and country houses and (b) war-time camps. The dates of original construction of these two categories are not recorded centrally. The available information is as follows:
