HC Deb 11 June 1979 vol 968 cc41-2W
33. Sir Anthony Meyer

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he remains satisfied that the steps taken to ensure that industrial users receive essential supplies of oil have proved satisfactory.

Mr. Gray

There have certainly been difficulties in some cases, although I know of no instance in which a factory has had to close or lay off its workers directly as a result of shortage of oil.

I am in touch with the Confederation of British Industry and Association of British Chambers of Commerce about the situation and I am sure they will help communicate to industrial consumers the message that ways must be found to reduce oil consumption and offer advice on the means.
