HC Deb 11 June 1979 vol 968 cc59-60W
Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what are the total areas of land owned by local authorities within the area of the 18 Inner London boroughs as under (a) derelict land available for housing development arising out of housing or other clearance and (b) derelict or semi-derelict housing under local authority ownership awaiting development and under development by contractors at work; and if he will break down these figures into areas by year in which the land or property became derelict.

Mr. Fox

My Department's information on local authorities' land holdings is limited and the details requested are not readily available. The most recent statistics show that on 1 April 1977 seven out of 12 boroughs classified as inner London boroughs by the London Government Act 1963 held 261.09 hectares for their own housing development; they also held 13.04 hectares which they had acquired for slum clearance, some of which would be available for housing. These figures are made up as follows:

Borough Housing land Slum clearance
Camden 11.20
Wandsworth 13.54 0.87
Westminster 1.29 0.56
Hackney 4.58
Hammersmith 10.41 1.03
Lewisham 38.08 9.06
Southwark 181.99 1.52
Figures for the other five boroughs are not available.
