§ Mr. Stuart Hollandasked the Minister of Transport how many cases have been reported of passengers being caught and injured by automatic doors on buses and whether or not the vehicle was moving at the time in (a) the London area and (b) the rest of the country.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkePrecise information is not available in the form requested. However, the results of a survey carried out between 1976 and 1978 suggest that in the country as a whole over this period there were 25 cases a year of passengers being trapped in the doors of buses; it appears that in about half of the cases the vehicles were moving. Directly comparable information is not available for London, but the Metropolitan Police have reported to us details of 10 such cases which occurred in their area in the period from mid-1975 to the end of 1977.
