§ Mr. Woolmerasked the Minister of Transport whether he will take steps to ban heavy lorries with no need for local access from the A650 road within the Batley and Morley constituency between the M1 and M621 motorways.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeThis length of the A650 ceased to be a trunk road on 1 May 1977. The responsibility for initiating any traffic management measures accordingly rests with the West Yorkshire county council.
§ Mr. Woolmerasked the Minister of Transport if he will list the remaining stages, together with a provisional timetable, for the consideration of the proposed Drighlington bypass on the A650 road.
§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeWe hope to announce a preferred route for the bypass this summer and to publish statutory proposals early in 1980. Should a public inquiry be necessary, we would aim to hold it later that year. Proposals for acquiring land may also have to go to a public inquiry. Subject to satisfactory completion of these statutory procedures and the availability of funds, construction could start in 1982.
