§ Mr. Hordernasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will list the numbers employed and the cost of salaries,
Date Number of staff Financial provision 1 April 1974 … … … … … … … 1,019 £ 3.9 million: 1974–75 1 April 1979 … … … … … … … 1,267 £ 9.5 million: 1979–80 The 1974 figures take no account of some 680 staff transferred to the Health and Safety Executive with effect from 1 January 1975. However, the resulting staff in post figure for 1 April 1974 is artifically low because at that date my Department still relied on the Department of Industry for the bulk of its common services. The 1979–80 financial provision reflects the adjustment to the Civil Service pay component of the cash limit included in the revised cash limits published on 26 June 1979.
Similar information in respect of the Government agencies sponsored by my Department is not readily available and could only be provided at disproportionate cost.
