asked the Secretary of State for Employment what study he has made of the evidence provided by the Transport and General Workers' Union and supplied to him of the difficulties encountered by widows of slate quarrymen due to the late payments of settlements under the 1979 Act dealing with quarry-dust disease.

Neither my right hon. Friend nor my right hon Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services has received any evidence or representations of this kind. The Pneumoconiosis etc. (Workers' Compensation) Act 1979 came into force only on 4 July. As I explained in a written reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Anglesey (Mr. Best) on 4 July, whilst claims may now be made, draft regulations prescribing the amount of payments will be laid before the House immediately after the recess.
